Starstruck Clothing - An Interview With The Queen Of Sparkles!
Earlier on in the week I managed to catch up with one of our fave suppliers - The awesome Leslie from Starstruck Clothing! I wanted to help give you guys a bit of a better grasp on the brand, and what they are all about. Cobalt Heights started stocking this amazing range a few years ago and we were the first New Zealand stockist of these stunning retro inspired Handbags and Wallets. Over the last couple of years their range has grown from strength to strength and they now make up a core part of our range.
Where you are based?
We are based in Lawrence Kansas. This is smack dab in the middle of the USA.
How long you have been around?
Around 2007 I started sewing clothing. I instantly found a love for vintage patterns and began hoarding all of the vintage patterns that I could find (I literally have thousands of patterns :)). I found the design process exciting and I was able to create clothing that actually fit and had a bit of "attitude". I loved that I could create something vintage with a punk rock spin. Soon after, I began exploring handbag making with glitter vinyl and realized quickly that this was what I really wanted to pursue but wasn't sure where to really start so we opened a retail store in downtown Lawrence.
Once our lease was up I began working full time on our handbag collections in 2011. We are able to make affordable handbags and wallets using high quality vegan friendly vinyl in small production runs. Our designs are constantly changing and we are inspired by patterns and shiny glitter. I always say add some glitter to Punk Rock and that is Star Struck Clothing.
How many of you work there?
When you buy from us you are buying from a family owned and operated small business. There are only 4 of us. Me, my husband, my daughter, and my son. I usually handle most of the day to day of our business and my family helps with all of the events and larger order preps. My daughter and I usually will work on designs or color ways together and any future lines.
Anything else you would like to add?
I create things I actually use because I love it. My house is completely decorated in the 50's with retro furniture and we own 2 vintage cars (50 Ford Custom and 55 Ford Fairlane) that when we are not vending we drive to car shows. I hope this helps to give you a better idea of who we are.
How cool is that?! Since Cobalt Heights is a small business I have always preferred to have our range made up of products from other small businesses wherever possible. I make a point of going out of my way to secure new, exciting and most importantly DIFFERENT gear that you have likely never seen before. The Starstruck range is incredible to look at and the quality is out of this world. You can shop the entire range HERE with Free Shipping NZ Wide x We have just had 2 gorgeous new ranges hit and a big restock of some old faves after being cleared out at Beach Hop.
